Last week I travelled to Tallinn for a relaxing weekend break away from all the hustle and bustle at home and long hours at work. It was a much-needed getaway and I was happy to be back in the city after a long while. Estonia’s capital is only a 2-hour boat ride from my hometown Helsinki across the Gulf of Finland. And thanks to convenient and fast transport options Tallinn has become my favourite weekend destination.
Tallinn’s Medieval Old Town is particularly magical during quiet winter months when large tourist masses stay away from the cold north. Snow covers Tallinn’s red rooftops and narrow cobblestone lanes.During the week it was snowing like crazy for more than five days. When I touched down Tallinn on Saturday morning temperatures were above zero, and the weather was gloomy and drizzly.
Despite the wet weather I spent the day exploring the fairytale like Tallinn old town taking in medieval city vibes and just admiring the city dressed in white. The abundance of colourful buildings, doors and window shutters never cease to amaze me. Wandering around town with no rush and no set plans was exactly what I needed to unwind and forget my hectic life back at home.
Although I have visited Tallinn hundreds of times, I will never get bored to explore this city, there is always something new. And the more I visit Tallinn, the more I begin to realise how special and beautiful the town actually is. Something precious and unique that we don’t have back a home. Have a look at the photos below and let me know what you think.
