During the festive Christmas season Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, is filled with great opportunities to capture Christmas spirit and enjoy the famous Danish hygge. Last weekend I got to witness Copenhagen’s stunning Christmas glory with beautiful Christmas lights, vibrant Christmas markets as well as Tivoli’s magical Christmas wonderland.Strøget, Copenhagen’s lively heart and one of Europe’s longest pedestrian streets with a wealth of shops had received beautiful Christmas lights and decorations with red love hearts, shiny stars and green garlands. Some stores along Strøget had illuminated their facade with colourful and sparkly lights.Illum and Illums Bolighus, Copenhagen’s premium department stores had gorgeous Christmas lights and decorations both inside the department store and outside on the facade and as well as inviting window displays for children.Copenhagen’s historical department store Magasin Du Nord had also put their Christmas decor on display creating Christmas spirit at Kongens Nytorv.Traditionally Copenhagen’s famous Hotel D’Angleterre had turned on their Christmas lighting on the hotel’s facade with polar bears playing around and icicles hanging down from the roof.In addition to Strøget other pedestrian streets in the city centre were also decorated with beautiful festive lights. The idyllic old harbour of Nyhavn with its iconic colourful houses hosted a very atmospheric Christmas market decorated with garlands and festive lights, sugar roasted almonds and mulled wine filling the air.Several other Christmas markets in the city centre also provided seasonal atmosphere and vibrant places to shop for Christmas gifts and enjoy hot drinks and refreshments with friends and family. The whole place felt like a dreamland with thousands if not millions of festive fairy lights and colours, and gorgeous Christmas decorations. The atmosphere at Tivoli was straight out of a storybook making it the most magical Christmas experience I have ever had.
